I hold an accredited training with the British Psychology Society in psychometric testing of personality. The questionnaire I use is the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R) The psychometric approach to personality uses empirical, positivist principles, and is based on the assumption that human attributes can be quantitatively assessed and measured usings techniques such as questionnaires. Within this approach, participants are asked to fill out questionnaires on the basis of how they perceive themselves, and how they think they would typically behave in any given situation. Results are then examined to look for consistencies in a person's characteristics, based on the assumption that human attributes are stable and consistent features which come together to make up that person's personality. The NEO was developed to operationalise the five factor model through the assessment of thirty specific facets (6 facets for each of the five factors) . There is strong evidence for the generalisability of the Big Five structure.
The questionnaire usually takes about fifty minutes to complete and the person can take it home with them to fill out and then return it to be assessed. It is not a test but an assessment as there are no right or wrong personality profiles. A detailed feedback booklet is then compiled and given to the client. Results are confidential and not shared with a third party unless agreed with the client and all assessment material is destroyed once the results are given. The assesssment is valid for a year after taking the questionnaire. It is a very good self development tool as it gives the individual a great insight into their personality.
I charge €130.00 per assessment which includes a twenty minute session of one to one discussion about findings before booklet feedback is given.
